The University of Wisconsin Undiagnosed Disease Program has been officially recognized as a Diagnostic Center of Excellence by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Undiagnosed Disease Network (UDN). The program’s X01 application was recently granted, with Bryn Webb, MD, associate professor in the Division of Genetics and Metabolism, as the award’s principal investigator, and co-PIs April Hall, PhD, MS, CGC; Kim Keppler-Noreuil, MD; and M. Stephen Meyn, MD, PhD.
The three-year award, beginning April 1, 2025, will enhance the program’s ability to evaluate and enroll patients with rare undiagnosed diseases, particularly underserved populations in Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. As part of this prestigious NIH-backed research network, the program will collaborate with top experts and centers nationwide, leveraging advanced technologies to address the most challenging medical cases. Co-investigators from the Department of Pediatrics include Janet Legare, MD; Hara Levy, MD, MMSc; Ryan McAdams, MD; Elizabeth Petty, MD; J. Carter Ralphe, MD; and Robert Steiner, MD.

This recognition underscores the UW’s leadership in tackling rare diseases and brings new diagnostic resources to the region, ensuring residents have access to cutting-edge care and expertise.
